Current collection: Terminology and glossaries — page 1
For a service brief, identify the languages, files and intended use. Terms, examples and archived news are references; submission documents follow the recipient’s requirements.
- What should a company glossary contain?
A useful glossary needs more than source and target columns. It should explain the concept, context and approval status. A term may mean different things in different disciplines, so consistency cannot be imposed without context.
- How do translation memories and glossaries differ?
A glossary manages concepts and names; a translation memory stores translated segments. They work together, but historical translations are not automatically correct and still need context and revision checks.
- How should numbers, units and symbols be checked?
Technical translations need separate linguistic and data checks. Differences in decimal marks, signs, limits, units and equipment identifiers are easy to miss in an ordinary read-through.
